Christine “Chris” Percival volunteers for Everybody Health & Leisure in Cheshire and is described as ‘an exceptional volunteer whose passion, compassion and commitment’ have made a lasting difference to the lives of people across her community.

Chris leads by example, bringing people together and creating welcoming environments where everyone feels valued.

As a Walking Netball Host, she champions inclusion at every opportunity, ensuring new and less experienced participants are encouraged, supported and given the confidence to become part of the social side of sessions. Her enthusiasm is infectious and inspires others to get involved, stay active and feel they belong.

Over the past 23 months, Chris has contributed more than 238 volunteer hours across 11 different opportunities with Everybody Health & Leisure. Based at Congleton Leisure Centre, as an Everybody Community Connector supporting Walking Netball, Pickleball and Sport & Social sessions, helping deliver activities, supporting staff and leading sessions.

A regular participant, Paula, said: “Walking Netball is more than a game. It keeps me fit and focused, brings plenty of laughs and camaraderie, and gives me a genuine sense of belonging as part of an incredible team.”

What truly sets Chris apart is her intuitive and caring nature. She consistently goes beyond the expectations of her role, stepping in at short notice, coordinating WhatsApp groups, checking on absent participants, raising welfare concerns and resolving issues before they become problems. Through her support, participants have formed friendships, grown in confidence and reduced feelings of isolation. Chris has played a significant role in participation across Congleton increasing by 17% over the last 12 months and is a truly deserving recipient of this award.
