Introducing BeActive Urmston

Published on: July 6th 2022

Kingsway Park Leisure Centre – the George Carnall Community Hub – has celebrated the launch of its rebrand to BeActive, Urmston.

The new look is part of the centre’s long-term strategy to encourage community-focused health and wellbeing in Urmston, Stretford and the wider local area.

Working with local marketing agency CRE8, the rebrand brings the centre up to date and gives the team a fresh platform to promote its wide range of gym, sports, wellbeing and community facilities.

Formerly the George H Carnall Sports Centre, the centre was rescued by community members in 2021. Operated by a small team of permanent staff, volunteers and Community Interest Company voluntary committee, the not-for-profit centre offers a fully-refurbished gym featuring state-of-the-art Precor and Xenios equipment following substantial investment.

BeActive Urmston members enjoy affordable access to the area’s only squash courts and sports halls, and classes from yoga and pilates to HIIT, boxfit and bootcamp. The centre encourages fitness-for-all, introducing walking netball, walking football and pickleball to get local people active.

Volunteering opportunities and flexible spaces make BeActive Urmston a place to be for the whole community.

The Centre’s new name and look was unveiled on 2 July 2022 by a group of long-standing members, together with BeActive Urmston’s staff and community.

The launch featured taster classes including Taekwondo, gymnastics and Boxfit, as well as tours of the new gym and exclusive launch membership offers.

The rebrand communicates the centre’s values. A modern logo is accompanied by a new strapline ‘Be Fit, Be Well, Be Together’, and a mission statement:

“To bring together our local community with a welcoming place to go, accessible wellbeing facilities & teamwork that builds a happier, healthier Urmston.”

BeActive Urmston’s Facility Manager Andy Brooks said:“We’re really proud to launch BeActive Urmston, a unique centre for our local area. As well as offering up-to-date, affordable and versatile facilities, we wanted to create a brand for the whole community, getting people together with a place to go, something to do and people to meet.

We encourage anyone looking for a welcoming, supportive and professional health and wellbeing offer to see what we have to offer! Gym and class memberships from £33/month, or £22/month for concessions.”
