Swimming Pool Support Fund Welcomed

Published on: July 3rd 2023

Community Leisure UK has welcomed news that the Swimming Pool Support Fund is now open to applications from local authorities with pools in their area.

The fund was announced earlier this year in the Government’s Spring Budget. The £60 million fund is split into two pots:

  • £20m that opens for applications today helping those facilities with swimming pools that have increased cost pressures, leaving them most vulnerable to closure or significant service reduction
  • £40m will be made available in September and will be for investment to improve the energy efficiency of public facilities with pools in the medium to long term

Kirsty Cumming, CEO of Community Leisure UK said: “Thank you to Sport England for their energy and work to get this fund launched.

“It is an important lifeline for many pools across the country and we are delighted that the Government has recognised the crucial role of public pools and created a fund to support.

”We would encourage members to be proactive in contacting your local authority immediately to express your interest in support – it will be the local authority’s decision to prioritise their application across the different pools in their area.

Local Authorities will have six weeks to make their applications, with the application window closing on 11th August with funding being delivered to successful facilities in September.  To find out more and to understand the application process visit the Sport England Website
