Five Year Deal to ‘Transform’ Volunteer Management in Public Leisure and Culture Sector

Published on: October 7th 2024

Community Leisure UK (CLUK) and Volunteero have signed a five-year partnership which is set to transform volunteering for one of the UK’s most diverse sectors.

CLUK, the members association for Charitable Trusts and Social Enterprises delivering public leisure and culture, has teamed up with the Volunteer Management Software specialist to create a platform that meets the needs of all sections of volunteering within complex organisations such as their members.

The move has been made possible thanks to a £651,000 funding boost from the National Lottery Community Fund earlier this year to support the development of Community Leisure UK’s flagship volunteer development programme, Active Kindness.

Bryony Hudson, Active Kindness Programme Manager for Community Leisure UK, explains: “Our sector is a truly unique one and that requires an equally unique way to support its volunteers. Our members have told us that off-the-shelf software to manage their volunteers isn’t meeting all their needs, because the variety of roles across public leisure & culture is like no other. Our members may require one-off support from volunteers for a music festival or triathlon event as well as ongoing daily support for libraries, pools, theatres, walks and sports sessions to name just a few.

“That’s why we’re excited to be working with Volunteero to develop a unique volunteer management software through consultation with our members, creating something truly incredible for our sector. We will create a dynamic new software solution that supports volunteer growth and retention across all areas of business, making it easier for members to enhance and expand their volunteering programmes.”

Volunteero were appointed to support Community Leisure following a competitive tendering process held earlier this year.

Based in London, the volunteer management software company specialises in supporting UK charities. Designed to simplify the experience and save time through enhanced volunteer scheduling, communicating, and tracking volunteer progress.

Ashley Staines, Volunteero CEO said: “We are delighted to be working with Community Leisure and their members to help them deliver the gold standard in volunteering. Creating active communities is so essential to all aspects of health and wellbeing so this is a cause near and dear to everyone in the team here at Volunteero.”

The National Lottery Community funding will support Community Leisure UK to empower their 100+ members to improve and enhance their volunteering programmes in a sustainable manner that best suits their unique circumstances. In addition to the volunteer management software, specialists in volunteer evaluation and volunteering development consultants will also support the Active Kindness project.

Kirsty Cumming, CEO of Community Leisure UK, said: “These are exciting times. We’re bringing the best consultants in volunteering together to drive change and give our members the ability to improve their volunteer model. This project will give them the tools to harness the power of volunteering not just for today but for many, many years to come.”
