CEL-E-BRATE Seriously Social good times, come on!

Community Leisure UK (CLUK), the members’ association specialising in Charitable Trusts and Social Enterprises delivering public leisure and culture services across the UK, is launching its first ever Seriously Social Awards in November.

The Awards will celebrate the difference CLUK members make by delivering social good and putting people above profit through their work as charities and social enterprises; helping individuals and communities live healthier, happier lives.

Earlier this year the association launched the Seriously Social Campaign which shone a spotlight on their members’ work on various themes including Health & Wellbeing, the Community, Inclusion, Employment and Skills and the Environment.

The awards being held on Wed 13 November at the Lowry in Manchester will reflect these themes.

Phil Rumbelow, Chair of Community Leisure UK, said: “Our members are a key part of the social economy, supporting people above profit for social good and connecting communities. For too long they have been viewed as simply deliverers of public leisure and culture and managers of buildings such as libraries and Leisure Centres. But they are much more than that. They play an integral part in the social fabric of our communities, connecting people with ways to lead healthier, more creative lives through culture and leisure. These awards are recognition of those social values that set our sector apart.”

Entries for members submission opened on Monday 19 August and will close Friday 20 September. Full details including judging criteria can be found at https://communityleisureuk.org/seriously-social-awards-conference/

The eight Seriously Social Award Categories are:

  • Seriously Social About Health & Wellbeing
  • Seriously Social About the Community
  • Seriously Social About Inclusion
  • Seriously Social About Employment and Skills
  • Spotlight Award for Outstanding Employee
  • Spotlight Award for Outstanding Volunteer
  • Seriously Social About the Environment
  • Seriously Social People Above Profit Award

Kirsty Cumming, CEO of Community Leisure UK, said: “Our members commitment to their communities is commendable but their contribution to the state is significant with more than £893M worth of Social Value generated by their work each year.

“These awards are a chance to shine a spotlight on the work of our members like never before. And we hope that they are a huge success.”
